What are MILbox’s theoretical foundations?

The Joint Research Centre executes the DigComp project on behalf of the European Commission. DigComp is the EU-wide framework for defining digital skills strategy and promoting and assessing digital competence. It started in 2010, and since then, awareness of it has steadily risen among Member States.

The EU’s goals of promoting the general public’s digital literacy have remained the same, and DigComp has remained a key component. DigComp is a vital tool for advancing the EU’s Digital Education Action Plan 2021–2027 and advancing the Commission’s aim of “A Europe Fit for the Digital Age.”

DigComp is employed in various contexts, including employment, education and training, and social inclusion, for multiple tasks, including generating competence assessment tools, developing training programs and materials, and defining professional digital profiles.

The fourth version of the framework DigComp 2.2 (released in March 2022) offers more than 250 new examples of knowledge, skills, and attitudes that support citizens’ engagement with digital technologies and new and emerging ones, such as systems powered by artificial intelligence (AI), in a secure, self-assured, and critical manner.

Guidelines for teachers and educators on tackling disinformation and promoting digital literacy through education and training as the theoretical background of MILbox

The Guidelines for Teachers and Educators on Tackling Disinformation and Promoting Digital Literacy Through Education offer valuable guidance for teachers and educators, including helpful recommendations, lesson plans, insights on various subjects, and cautionary notes based on what is effective in digital literacy and education and training.

The Guidelines promote responsible and safe use of digital technology, a broader understanding of digital literacy through education and training, and improved public awareness of misinformation. The Guidelines offer instructional experience on developing our students’ critical thinking abilities to increase their resilience in the digital age.

The Guidelines feature a list of the learning objectives of digital literacy, which act as part of the theoretical background of the MILbox project. These objectives are based on already established frameworks, such as the European Digital Competence Framework (DigComp 2.2.)
